We go to great lengths to keep women and children together. It isn’t always possible. But part of recovering from homelessness is learning basic life skills, including parenting.
Having the children around gives our moms the opportunity to practice new ways of teaching, encouraging and guiding their children that can ensure their future success. As we work with parents, we also have the opportunity to stop homelessness from going on for another generation.
And having the children around also gives our moms a lot of motivation to change their lives for the better. They are reminded every day that they are a role model for their child, and that alone can ensure our moms stay focused on their program and moving on to a productive life.
Our children seem to be so happy to be with their parents, especially when they’ve been in foster care and now their parents are really there for them. I’m glad for them. And we also really enjoy having them around!
