We Didn’t Know What We Didn’t Know

By Sylvia Anderson

When our staff gathered a few years ago to discuss ways we can help more people, our conversation led to a shocking realization. Even our staff – those of us who work closest with people trapped in poverty – didn’t fully understand what it’s like to struggle with hunger, homelessness and despair on a regular basis.

The more we talked, the more we saw that before we could do more, we needed to know more.  That’s when the Poverty 101 class was created.

The class, which focuses on the social, generational and situational factors that contribute to poverty, is usually held on a Saturday. During this informative class you will:

  •  Gain a deeper understanding of the effects of poverty.
  •  Learn to recognize the barriers that keep people trapped.
  •  Examine your life experiences that affect how you see poverty and its effects.

Will you join us? You’ll not only learn the truth about poverty, you’ll also learn how you can help make a difference in the lives of those who are struggling in your community. Classes are held once a quarter.
